A Meme For FAWM - Riffs and Licks
A Meme For FAWM
My fourth FAWM song is "25 Random Things About Me."

If you're on Facebook, you're probably sick to death of being tagged for the "25 Random Things About Me" meme. Apparently, no one on Facebook has ever seen a meme before. I responded early on with a piece of PHP code that prints 25 random numbers, but I kept getting tagged anyway. So I grepped the last year's worth of my LJ entries for those that started with the word "I," saved the first sentence of each to a text file, threw out those that were completely unsuitable, randomized their order, edited and rearranged them a bit, and used them as the "lyrics" for the song. The music is a loop bed built in GarageBand (which, like most Apple software, is simultaneously brilliant and incredibly irritating), plus (of course) harmonica. I really do enjoy electronica+harmonica so it was fun to do some electromonica.

(Since it's 'electromoncia', I thought haxor talk was appropriate.)

You should send this piece to TripleJ or RTR-FM. I could see them playing something like this on Wired or something similar.

...Okay, usually what I do when someone new tags me is that I just tag them back from the ONE time I did it. I think I may link people to this instead sometimes, it's more fun.

I promise I'll listen to the song as soon as I get this off my chest!

Facebook is bringing people from my distant past back into my view. I'm loving "25 Random Things" because it's giving me a little glimpse into the lives of people I was close to a long time ago. It's a head start, a conversation starter.

I probably wouldn't post "25 Random Things" on LJ, since it's no different from my usual postings (in content, not in volume of things said), but I might read it if someone else posted it. I enjoy reading about other people, and if the number 25 gets someone to write about themselves, that's cool with me. It's different from most of the memes I see, which I mostly ignore. (Especially questionnaires. Snooze.)

The nature of LJ is completely different from Facebook, for me. For one thing, LJ friends are, in my case, mostly actual friends or people that I would like to hang out with. (Why haven't we met yet? I think we have tons of mutual Real Life friends.) Also, it's more like a diary, so I don't have to start conversations.

Oy, that was rambly.

Yeah, I know. I like FB too. But that meme got on my nerves.
