An Alternative to Tracting
Yesterday I listened to the first chapter of Part II of shunn's autobiographical The Accidental Terrorist (he's podcasting it serially), part of which was about Mormon missionaries goofing off instead of going door-to-door like they're supposed to.

This morning in Washington Square Park, right under the arch, I saw the above chalk diagram on the asphalt (larger version) on the asphalt. I wonder how many "placements" they counted that as?

Nothing like street-contacting!

Ah, there's nothing like street-contacting! Actually, I wouldn't know because that's a technique that was never used in the missions where I served. But Laura saw missionaries all over Steinway Street with displays on easels handing out tracts a couple of weeks ago. Boy, I would have hated that.

Damn, though, that diagram took some work. And it's a pretty thorough overview of the Plan of Salvation. What a great fantasy writer Joseph Smith would have made. (Oh, wait...)

Re: Nothing like street-contacting!

Say, did you smudge out the phone number digitally, or did a passerby do that? :-D

Re: Nothing like street-contacting!

I did that digitally -- it was still visible on the pavement.
