LJer Accused of Murder
Here's a creepy one. 16-year-old Rachelle Waterman, smchyrocky on LJ, has been arrested and charged with first degree murder. The police say she solicited the help of two men to kill her mother, whose body was found in a burning minivan on a logging road. It could have been worse; she happily posted her results of a "Your Homicidal Rampage" meme.

The comments in her blog are almost as frightening as the incident itself.

Oily sheet, Batman. That's terrifying. I note that the more recent entries alluded to in the Alaska Journal piece no longer appear in her blog. Yeesh.

Somebody made it friends-only after I posted that note.

Boy, there's a bit of omission in that understated post.

The understatement of that post is chilling. It sounds like a sad story in many ways: She's apparently a smart kid, way overscheduled, harrassed as "fat" and even sent to "fat camp," grounded for getting a B+ on a math test, looking forward to her solo in the Christmas choir show. And you can a typical over-dramatizing over-fantasizing teenager opening her mouth too much to the wrong people and having things go further than she ever imagined ... except for this disingenuous little post.

More than a little reminiscient of the Parker-Hulme murder case in New Zealand, where two teenagers (one of whom later became the myster writer Anne Perry) murdered one of their mothers. Both of them got off fairly lightly, and they actually commited the (quite brutal) murder themselves.

Yes, Heavenly Creatures, wherein the world was first graced with the vision of Kate Winslet on screen, and the wheels were greased for Peter Jackson to commit the atrocity that is The Lord of the Rings.

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

I have nothing to add except that now the public scolds will be wringing their hands over the dangers of teen blogs.
