Above the River, On the Bike, Under the Sun
Photo_041008_001.jpgFinally, a real spring day -- high 60s and sunny. I took the bike on the first real ride of the season (errands and laps around the park don't really count), to Madison Square Park to meet rosefox for lunch on a bench in the sun. It was a pretty leisurely ride (just under 14 miles in about 80 minutes of riding; average speed 10mph) but it felt great. The photo is the East River looking north from the Manhattan Bridge.

Did you go to the Shake Shack? I love that place and today was a perfect day for it.

You know, I've never eaten there because I was never willing to wait on line. But today I got there early, and I had the bike, so I took my place on line and sat on the bike and read my book. In 20 minutes I moved up maybe 1/3 of the line. I don't know what they're doing in that shack, but it can't possibly be worth waiting an hour for. When Rose arrived we went to a deli across the street, and I got a delicious calzone in less than five minutes. She suggested trying it in bad weather or on the off season, which maybe I'll do. Is it really THAT good?

I think it is...really that good for the genre of food that it is. I.E. burgers, fries and shakes. I haven't actually HAD a true burger from them, just their shroomburger, which is the following. Two portobello mushroom caps with a few slabs of cheese in the middle, breaded and deep fried. I mean, I feel strongly about how awesome that is.

As far as the wait goes, I usually only go if I do not have time constraints and I have something to do in line (chat w/friends, read etc). And if its a nice day, I don't mind the wait. So. Those are my thoughts.

OK, I buy that. Maybe I'll catch it on a day when the line isn't so long.
