Mayonnaise is French.

But prosciutto and mozzarella are not, and never the twain (or thrain) should meet. Yuck.

Excuse me, I have a thrain to catch.

That sandwich combo does indeed thrain the limits of credibility.

Mayo IS French; they love emulsions, and transforming foodstuffs (in this case egg and oil) into totally different substances... they probably like jello a lot, too.

That's really funny in a gross way.
I thought mayonnaise was Spanish, like, "sauce of Mallorca."

I think it is French. Remember Ambrose Bierce's definition of it? "One of the sauces which serve the French in place of a state religion."

Gross. And I don't think you can excuse it with the French connection.

I always know a true Italian deli by whether they dare put mayo on their Italian subs. The one near my house in Carroll Gardens was the best -- when I first went in there, I asked the guys behind the counter if their Italian sub had mayo. They looked at me like I was from outer space and said, "Italian subs don't have mayo" in their Brooklyn accents. That was the answer I wanted to hear. :)

You could get hurt asking questions like that in some parts of Carroll Gardens Red Hook...

I finally saw Annie Hall tonight, so now I get the reference.

Wow -- you'd never seen it? I thought that was a requirement for residence here.
