Second day, second song
Today's FAWM song is "Plastic Bags," a song I've wanted to write for some time. There are plenty of examples of wasteful excess in American culture, but few more ludicrous than carrying a box of plastic trash bags home in a plastic grocery bag that you're going to wad up and throw out in one of the new trash bags you just bought.

(Oh, and here's the article in The New York Times that got me writing this morning.)

“If I forgot these, I’d just take the cart of groceries and put them loose in the boot of the car, rather than buy a bag.”

It's so freaking simple.

Even simpler for me. I use plastic grocery bags for garbage bags, so if I forget my carrying bag then I just add to my trash-bag stockpile.

I like that song. I like the irony of the Times coming in a "blue plastic bag."

I'm going shopping today. I have three cloth bags (2 of those really huge Steve Madden shopping bags and one smaller one I got from The Body Shop). Will I use them? I have hope ...

I'm glad! I'll have a CD of it for sale soon, in a nice plastic box, shrink-wrapped in plastic, and shipped in plenty of plastic packing to make sure it doesn't get damaged. :-)
